Palletizing cobot solutions

Description cobot palletizer

A palletizing cobot set-up is an automated system in which a collaborative robot (cobot) is used for stacking and arranging goods on pallets. This setup uses a cobot, which is specially designed to interact safely with humans, enabling direct interaction and collaboration without the need for a safety fence.

The cobot palletizer is equipped with sensors to detect, locate and grab objects. The setup can accurately and efficiently pick up boxes, crates, containers or other packaged goods and place them on pallets in order according to the desired stacking patterns.

The set-up, including gripper, cobot arm, and conveyor, can be adapted to different products, sizes and stacking patterns, allowing flexibility in processing different products and orders. It can be used in various industries such as logistics, distribution, warehouses and manufacturing to automate the palletizing process and improve efficiency and accuracy.

Using a palletizing cobot setup offers several benefits, including increased productivity, reduced physical strain on employees, improved ergonomics and higher consistency in stacking patterns. In addition, the setup can be flexibly adapted to changing production needs and different products, making it a cost-effective and versatile solution for automated palletizing.

Options and Parameters

Lift kit for cobot range

Liftkit

A lift kit is a valuable extension option for cobot stands that offers extra flexibility and height adjustment. This telescopic system solution integrates into the existing cobot stand and adds an impressive 950mm of additional working range in the vertical direction.
With the lift kit, cobots can now perform tasks that require greater vertical reach, such as stacking goods on higher shelves, placing products on raised surfaces, or manipulating objects at different levels. This increases the versatility of the cobot and makes it possible to perform tasks in locations that were previously out of reach. The system works seamlessly with the cobot arm and can be easily integrated into the existing setup. With minimal effort, the operator can operate the lift kit and adjust the vertical working range according to the specific requirements of the job.

Palletdetection

To ensure uninterrupted palletizing, a pallet stop can be used as a handy extension to the basic cobot stand, specially designed for palletizing. This extension makes it easy to adapt the cobot stand for specific palletizing tasks.
The pallet stop can be easily placed and installed on the basic cobot stand, improving the functionality and efficiency of the palletizing process.

Using the sensors in the pallet detection extension, the cobot stand can detect whether a pallet has been placed in the loading hold. This gives the opportunity to apply further automation in the relevant production process. The pallet detection is easy to fold if, for example, only one pallet is temporarily needed or if no pallet stop has to be used at all.
sensors for cobot

Safety sensor

An option to expand the cobot stand is to add a safety sensor. This sensor, usually a range sensor, is placed at the front of the cobot stand and provides an extra layer of safety for the interaction between the cobot and the operator.
The safety sensor acts as an indication for the cobot position when an operator is nearby. Detecting the presence of a person allows the cobot stand to pause or cancel the running process to ensure operator safety. This is especially useful in situations where the operator has to perform manual tasks in close proximity to the cobot stand and there is a risk of collision or injury.

The use of a safety sensor ensures a safer working environment by better controlling the interaction between the cobot and the operator and preventing accidents. It provides peace of mind for both the operator and the person responsible for workplace safety.
Cobot arm UR10

Cobotarm

Universal Robotics offers a range of cobots that are compatible with cobot mode. Four different cobot arms are available: UR3, UR5, UR10 and UR16. With a load capacity of 3 kg and a reach of 500 mm, the UR3 is the smallest in the range and has a compact design. This arm is
extremely suitable for tasks that require a high degree of precision and flexibility in a limited space.

The UR5 offers a versatile balance between size and capacity. With a load capacity of 5 kg and a reach of 850 mm, this arm is suitable for tasks such as machine loading, pick-and-place, and light material handling.

The UR10 is the largest of the three, with a load capacity of 10 kg and a reach of 1300 mm. This arm is suitable for tasks that require extended reach and lifting capacity, such as machine loading, palletizing and assembly.

The UR16 is the most powerful model in the range, with a load capacity of 16 kg and a reach of 900 mm. This arm is ideal for tasks involving handling heavier objects such as heavy material handling, CNC machine loading and welding.
Software, UX for Industry

Software

The palletizing cobot stand is supported by various software packages that extend its functionality and possibilities. A generic monitoring pack is available, which allows users to remotely monitor, control and pause the cobot stand if necessary.
This software provides real-time insight into the status of the cobot stand and enables users to monitor the process from a remote location and make any necessary adjustments.

In addition, an extensive palletizing software package is available. This software can be an extension to the basic software package of the cobot stand or a stand-alone solution. It offers advanced functionalities specifically aimed at palletizing. One of the additional options is the labeling of products during the palletizing process, where each item on the pallet is provided with a barcode or label for further traceability and logistics management. It also offers the option of automatically placing slip sheets between different layers on the pallet. Slipsheets are thin plastic or cardboard plates that are placed between the layers of stacked products to promote stability and prevent damage to the products.

FAQs

Some of the benefits are: increased productivity, reduction of physical strain on employees, improved precision and consistency in stacking, flexibility to handle different objects, improved safety through collaboration between the cobot and employees.

A palletizing cobot stand can perform various tasks, such as stacking boxes, bags, containers or other packaged goods on pallets. It can also handle different stacking patterns and weight distributions, depending on the application’s specifications.

Yes, a palletizing cobot stand can typically handle different sizes and shapes of objects, such as boxes, bags, containers, etc., depending on the specifications of the cobot and the grippers used.

The most important thing for choosing the cobot arm is the expected load. Smaller cobot arm models can handle less load, but have lower tolerances. Larger cobot arm models are stronger and can handle larger loads.

The speed at which a palletizing cobot stand can stack objects can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of the stacking patterns, the weight of the objects and the specifications of the cobot. On average, palletizing cobot stands can stack several dozen objects per minute.

Industries such as logistics, distribution, manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce can benefit from a palletizing cobot stand.
